So MF can't do the equivalent of ranges, i.e. I need to create a new variable for every possible horse in a race?  This means that, if I want to do calculations based on 2 variables (e.g. back price and lay price), I have to create, like, 30 user variables (back1-15 & lay1-15) because I don't know how many horses will be returned by my trigger conditions and then do a calculation that somehow only uses non-zero variables (since, if only 5 horses are returned by my trigger, then favs6-15 will be zero)?

I can't do (for example):
set user variable maxBL
trigger conditions - 5 horses meet the condition
MAX(back_price/lay_price) - divides the back price by the lay price for each of those 5 horses and returns the highest result

instead you're saying I have to do:
set user variable BL1
trigger conditions - 5 horses meet the condition
r_1_back_price/r_1_lay_price

set user variable BL2
etc.

set user variable maxBL
MAXV(BL1,BL2,BL3,BL4,BL5)

Is that what you're saying?

hi
i just gave them as a sample, so that you could use them just like a spreadsheet calculation, but very long winded.
if you want to find the max back price from an imported or set condition amount of selections, then all you do is
set your conditions in the variable trigger, but the last condition been and the fitting selections back price is the maximum.
the variable value will be the maximum of all the selection that meet your conditions.
i am maybe making it more complicated for you by giving to many examples.

hi again
it is a lot easier just to say what you want a trigger to do, with examples, but use figures that won't give your system away.
when you are ready to set triggers to suit your system, then we can work on one trigger at a time, that you cannot do.
we are here to help each other, along the way you will come up with new ideas that will be better than what others use.
we are all learning.
my knowllage of excel is little,i learn most when other users ask questions, then i have to look for the answer and learn at the same time.

I know - and I appreciate it.  I work the opposite way though, i.e. I try to understand the internal logic of the system first and then worry about the actual trigger later as opposed to figuring out a trigger I want to implement and then trying to make it work within a system I don't understand.
