Random Numbers in MFPro
« on: Fri, 11 December, 2009, 17:36 »
Hi all,

unfortunately there is no function for random numbers in MFpro. For some betting ideas it would be very useful for me to have a filter which blocks or allows bets on by  random.

All my bets for pre - inplay trading on all markets use same value ( e.g. 50/back_price for lay bets and 50/lay_price for back bets ). I can calculate a guess of propability that the bet gets matched by some WOM heuristics.

Because funds are limited, and the idea is to enter unmatched bets which are very likely to get matched soon and skip or delay less bets which may take a time to get matched.

Random numbers are the only way to do this, a simple Linear congruential generator or a Park Miller random number is sufficent for my needs, but can MFPro handle big integer numbers?

Thanks for any hint!

Martin, rng is not a problem, big integers either, but I did not understand how random numbers would help you.

If you want to make sure that your bet gets matched, why betting a random amount??

Oxa, thanks for you reply.

I do not bet random amounts, this does not make sense for me. And I cannot make sure that bets get matched either.

The only thing that I want to do is make completed dutches more frequently.

I will skip a dutch if propability of a complete match is lower than random numer. I prefer to put more money in dutches which are probable to match because funds are blocked for less time and can be re-used more frequently. Up to 25% more earnings compared to equal dutches on all markets. (in Excel simulation if guess of propability is correct )

How would you define such probability then?
