Australian residents betting in play
« on: 15 Jun 2013, 11:22 »
Hi,

As the current Australian law stands, betting in-play online on sporting events is against the law with the sole exception of horse racing.
With this in mind my question is, can Australian residents bet in-play online on UK, SA and US horse racing ?
Phone betting is allowed on all the above, but this is not trigger friendly :)
Thanks if you can contribute some insight, as I was planning to move back there but
not keen with all those restrictions in place.

Hi racepro,

You just need to subscribe a windows VPS located in UK (about £10-15 a month).
Then put your trigger on the server and you can start to bet in-play with your current account.

Regards,

Clint.

hi Clint,
Thanks, I actually have a VPS.
However I read somewhere it is not as simple as that. I believe the onus is on Betfair to establish via request of proof of address to prove you are actually living or spend most of the time in the country where the IP is located. Failure to comply could result in them terminating your account. Apparently they are obliged by the government to pursue this course of action.
How true this all is I'm not sure. I'm sure Betfair would be reluctant to follow up on this but all depends on what the risk factor is for them.
I really wanted to know if I could legally bet in-play online on UK and US races from Australia as it is legal for Australian races.

Please note, BetFair is seems to be currently OFFLINE
