Automate your Selection Process
« on: 27 Apr 2010, 13:54 »
Hi,

I know its probably a bit naughty but I would like to talk about another bit of software that can prove highly useful to anyone useing Market Feeder Pro. Its called WinAutomation and can be found http://www.shareasale.com/m-pr.cfm?merchantID=24012&userID=430924&productID=467152187  Its basically a macro recorder for windows which allows you to automate any windows program or browser process. The way I use it is to log on to my favourite Horse racing site and gather all of the days racing for me and put it into an excel sheet. I then have excel filter the race selections into Handicaps and rate them via form etc. It then sends my selections to a text file, opens up MF loads the selections for me and thats done. All in one click of the mouse. This would normally take at least an hour or so to do before and is now done in about ten seconds.

Worth a look for those that find form study boring or for those looking to speed up any process. Ive only just started dabbling with this but I think the possibilities are endless and you can even distribute the .exe files you produce.

Has anyone else tried this out and used it for horse analysis etc.

Hi Mighty

Sounds great, I was wondering if you could explain the process of downloading races into excel and sorting into handicaps etc. I'm a newbie to excel so need all the help I can get.

Thanks

Hi Purple,
The process is a little long winded to explain in a reply. I would suggest you download the win automation software and try the 30 day trial. I would be happy to send you my example once you have this. You will see that alot of the processes are dependant on the individual computer, so my version might not necessarily work on your computer. This will become clear once you have a play about with it. The site I use for the horses is Adrian Masseys site.

PM me if you want my example. It might not work straight off but you may be able to dissect it an get it to work with a bit of tweeking.

Alternatively I might set up a blog and post the days selections there. I can always automate the whole process , so it wouldn't take too much work.

Anyone interested?

Oxa,

I may do a video of showing how this is done. Would it be ok to post a link to it here. Trying to explain this is a little long winded.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi mightyspurs,
This sounds brilliant! I currently a similar thing by hand but it takes me much more than an hour or so. I certainly would be interested in both a video and your selections. The info is much appreciated.
Thanks

I forgot to ask you, mightyspurs, just what is your favourite horse racing site? The dificulty I've always found is converting the html data to excel or csv. There is a web site that already has all the data in excel spreadsheet form (www.ukracestats.com), they used to be free but he now charges £10 per download, which is too rich for me. Since then I have had to adopt a very long winded method to extract the data, in fact I've virtually given up so anything to speed up and actually automate the process would be received with joy!

Please note, BetFair is seems to be currently OFFLINE
