Betfair Account Closed
« on: 13 Nov 2020, 20:04 »
Hi,

Today when i tried to enter in my account i received the message it was closed. I tried to contact the helping chat and they expained me it was "closed on business grounds due to market data control reasons".

Basically, i was placing bets on the current under/over, so i had to monitor several markets to place a single bet in the current one.

These last weeks betfair has been a mess and i had to change the bot several times, so the bot wasn´t able to place as many bets as it was supposed due to their issues. I also didn´t  have enough time to change it to start placing bets in more markets beyond the current one. I was curently working on that.

Even so, it´s hard to understand as my unitary bet was already 30€ and it was quickly increasing.

My problem is that they give it as a close issue and not even have provided any contact (phone or email) to talk with someone to explain what happend and try to fix the issue.

Anyone knows a way to contact them further than the chat? Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hi BlueSky, that's just terrible.

The weirdest thing, our own account was also closed a few days ago, and only after I had a rather unpleasant conversation with the head of BDP and we figured out how to reduce the number of requests sent to the server, was it restored. I guess it's tough times for everybody. They could be trying to cut down on overheads by discouraging users from refreshing market data. But obviously, the whole point of betting efficiently goes bust if you can't monitor market prices.

I really don't know what to say except that maybe appeal to the fact that you are a long-time user? How long have you been registered there? Have you tried their Twitter support at @BetFairCS?

Hi Oxa,

Thanks for your words

I am probably registed since 2010 or near. I am obviously a premium charge payer and i never had problems with my account before.

The most disturbing of all this is that i really think that after some years battling to be consistently profitable, i firmly think i was in the right path. I have been profitable with the bot all weeks in the row for the last 2 to 3 months. The amounts of the profit are still low (i was expecting something like 250€ this month), but i had plans to increase the stakes to more than 300€/each in some cases and for all the others at least to 100€ (currently it´s already 30€). Also i was going to start placing several times the number of bets i am currently.

The work to do that is almost finished and the main reason it wasn't yet done was due to the nightmare the betfair changes had caused on the bot (many nights lost changing it to accomodate the changes they made).

So, even if probably now i am overpassing the reasonable use of data for the profitable i give them (at least that´s their opinion), i am sure in a couple of months i can be very good client, placing several tens of back bets in a total liability of several thousands of euros per day.

I would like to talk with someone and arrive to a reasonable agreement to the use of data because i can make changes in the bot to accomodate their demands. The problem is that the assistant i spoke with told me it was a final decision and i don´t have the same acess as you to the decision makers. So, it will be hard to talk with someone that can change the decision....

How many markets, in average you guys monitor on daily basis? I've been trying to figure out whats the number is fine for Betfair. Another thread about account closed is worrying a lot for me.

I will contact Head of API on Monday and consult him on what is the general policy for such cases and whether anything can be done about it.

Thanks. That would help a lot. Being honest Im scared of using MFP at all after what I read here last days. Clarification would be great. OP stated that he monitor "several" markets and got banned. I've been monitoring 200-300 markets weekdays and even 400+ weekends so don't really want to get kicked out. No idea if just "monitoring markets" is what they are upset about or volume placed as well. Don't know what about other people, I dont stake much, around 5k a week maybe so would be nice to compare number of markets followed and average weekly amount staked if we talk about people who got banned or warned.

Not that I'm trying to whitewash MF Pro, but if you were under the threat of your account being closed, then it would concern all bots that are obtaining market data from BetFair, as all of them, including MF Pro, are using the same API and the rules are the same for everyone (or at least I want to believe so).

Oxa, i guess i finally understood what happened latelly with betfair. Mainly the reason why they supressed the offer of some markets in football matches (Correct Score, Half Time Markets and others). My idea is that due to the pandemy there was an increased pressured over their servers. So, they started by changed the templates, cutting the offer of many markets. Then, as it was possibly not enough, they felt the need to go over the accounts of who was demanding the most data. It´s just a theory but i shouldn´t be that far from the true. I should have understood the signals but as i didn´t i am on this situation now.

Unambiguous guidelines are fundamental. On my defense, i can say that should they revert the decision i will 100% follow them. I firmly think i am a couple of months away from arriving to the "big amounts" and as a premium charge payer, it´s easy to see that if i can do that while i restrict my data use, i can make them earn lots of money, as i already did before. On a business ground to my case and certainly to most of the others must be given a 2nd change. Should betfair decide later that we are not good commercial partners they can, at anytime, close, again, the account. They just shouldn´t procede the way they are currently. Fair or unfair, it was unquestionably unexpected. That would be the right path.

I would say i open more markets than you. I wouldn´t call it monitoring as i had to open all the markets i might need to place the bet and not the ones i "really" would need later on the game (i work on current Under over+0.5, so i needed to open on the biginning of the game several u/o markets just to place the bet on the right market at the end). Those u/o markets were kept "alive" (1 refresh per each 4 minutes just till i was sure i wouldn't need them). So, if uou take that in consideration it would be a lower numbers of markets than yours. The amounts are still much lower than yours, as i was still increasing the number of bets and the amounts of the unitary stakes (it´s a recent bot, being tested and improved with real money). I was expecting to arrive to your values till the end of the year.

There are a few reports on other bot users forums (eg. Betangel) about account closures.  A general google search finds some others, so it is certainly not just MFP users with this problem.

Yes, all of what you suggested, and also the fact that they introduced the additional DDoS defense measures (i.e. CloudFlare, etc.) which brought MF Pro into the frenzy of connection refusals which we've been tackling over the recent months. They are clearly trying to cut the number of people accessing their servers.

Hi Oxa,

Good luck for tomorrow's conversation with the Head of the API. I hope you can come with straight guidelines about the use of the API and that you manage to bring an agreement with conditions to re-open the recently closed accounts.

We trust in you :):):)

So they will only be closing accounts that use the API and winnning Sportsbook accounts then?   It seems to me they can't be bothered with the exchange, so better start planning a Betdaq version Oxa?

Hello!

I kindly asked the Head of API to outline BF's guidelines in relation to the maximum number of markets monitored/requests to the server, and explained to him that people are getting concerned as most are legit exchange users, not gatherers of commercial data.

I'll post here as soon as he gets back to me.

It seems to me they can't be bothered with the exchange, so better start planning a Betdaq version Oxa?

I wouldn't fall out with BF in the heat of the moment. Over the 16 years we've worked with them, they've always been cooperative, and I get the feeling that they are under pressure from the top management to cut their costs, hence the witch-hunting.

Let's first see the real picture.

If thats the issue, why they just don't set the price for unlimited API usage instead of banning user without prior warning? I would gladly pay if they assure me that they won't ban me for using MFP.

Please note, BetFair is seems to be currently OFFLINE
