Competition Time (Again :( )
« on: 23 Nov 2015, 16:32 »
Hi,

Dear Santa,

How about a Christmas (or December) competition of some sort?

A Naps tipping competition maybe, with the highest matched in-running prices counting instead of sps. Perhaps even with an inrunning green at say 1.8 counting as a net win?

Perhaps Betfair would like to co-sponsor a prize with a free Sportsbook bet?

Suggestions very welcome.

Dear Larp,

You have been a naughty boy this year as you have not produced a winning trigger for us all  to see and win with.
There is nothing in my toy shed that would interest you and no point asking the bookies for ideas as they only ever give away boomerangs and homing pigeons.
However, don't worry, you still have time to repent and all your sins this past year will be forgiven.
All you need to do is provide us with a couple of good priced winners for the Christmas racing weekend at Ascot 18 and 19 December.
Maybe that weekend would be a good idea for a racing comp as per your suggestion.
What say you Oxa ?

Thank you racepro for your hearty cheer!

18/19th is an excellent suggestion for the comp. Lets see if there is any real interest/take up from other forum members.

Hopefully, others will post and let us know if they are up for it.

So what should such competition include? Not sure I've got the naps idea - the forum members will suggest racing tips and whoever scores the highest is the winner? Or is it something else you meant?

Suggest something like this:
1) pick one horse to win.
    a) Either one horse per race over the two days
    b) Or minimum 4 races over the two days.
(To be decided)
2) Offer first and second prize.
Prizes could be an extension of x weeks on membership.
This won't help lifers though, but a bit of fun for everyone.
Perhaps this comp could be open to non members also.

I would suggest just the Ascot meeting on both days and the Haydock meeting on Saturday (which are being shown on Channel4). Or maybe include the previous weekend too when C4 are showing Cheltenham both days and also Doncaster on Saturday. That would be approx 24 races.

One selection per race (or just scheduled C4 races) with the highest In-Play price matched by the winner on Betfair being added to your total. The in-running aspect is more interesting than just a Bsp.

I think there will have to some financial incentive if there is to be much interest. I would be very surprised if Betfair refused to donate a few free Sportsbook bets for prizes as MfPro users generate huge revenues for them every year. I know from experience that they will give free bets rather than refunds, so they do have a facility with funds available for one-offs.

It can't hurt to ask them anyway!

I agree with racepro the prize of the Mfpro subscription could be opened up to anyone. But any other prizes should be limited to people who are members as and from today.

What troubles me is what relationship does MF Pro bear to tipsters and their tips, as they are about non-automated betting. Any thoughts?

Hi Oxa,

Ok, I get that point.
Lets think about a format for an automated comp that could be easily run etc.

If there is,  for sure let's do it that way.

Hi,

It is taking quite a lot of thought to come up with a format for a comp that will include some aspects of auto-betting.

The best I have so far is this. Each person would before 11am do the following;

1. Attach a .txt (import selections) file.
2. List their Pick for each race, which will have £2 placed at BSP.
3. Nominate a higher In-Play price for £2 to be matched
4. Nominate a lower In-Play price (max1.8) for £4*2 to be matched at.

It would not be difficult to check the results and update a leaderboard. I will do that myself if required.

I cannot see how a trigger comp would work.

I have spent enough time already attempting to get this over the first hurdle. There may well be no take up from users anyway without some free bets. I really am of the opinion Betfair should sponsor a prize or two for its customers of Mf. But it's not up to me to chase them for that: if it was then I surely would.

Hi,

I would like a "normal" trigger battle, but I would prefere to run the trigger on my own machine.

A measure for how good the trigger is could be be ROI?

Rules determined later? (example: only real betting...)

;D

That's why I think its necessary to run the trigger on it's own machines (and real betting) so we will try our best with a serious-trigger. Just wounder how we prove our results?

About the prices - one nice price would be one yer subscription for X-feeder!

Please note, BetFair is seems to be currently OFFLINE
