How do you work out how much to bet?
« on: 31 May 2013, 11:27 »
Hi guys,

Something has been borthering me for a while - how do you work out how much to bet if you want to win a certain amount after commission?

For example if I want to win £50 on a lay bet on a 5% commission market - how do I work it out? 5% of £50 is £2.50 but that doesn't mean I have to lay £52.50, because 5% of £52.50 is £2.63 so that would leave me with £49.87. I can't find a formula to work it out.

Thanks,

Whitey

Hi Whitey,

the formula for a market with 5% comission:

win_amount / 95 * 100 = lay_amount to get your win_amount after comm.

more general formula if commission is x%:

win_amount / (100-x) * 100 = lay_amount to get your win_amount after comm.

For your 50 GBP example with 5% commission for lay bets, your lay_amount ist 52,63 GBP to have a win of 50 GBP after commission.
