Optimum Computer Set Up
« on: 06 Jan 2011, 23:45 »
What have forum users found to be the best computer configuration : RAM, processor, cache etc... for the fastest inward calculations and execution of triggers. Anybody got any hints or quality tips for improving the speed in this area?

thanks

CPU and Computer setup are not as important as a reasonable refrash rate and some optimisations in conditions. For me, speed and fast calculation have less importance then overall system reliability.

It does not make sense to to buy a Intel I7-985 System with 12 threats at 2000 EUR to run a single Instance of MFPro. In my expirence, MFPro works fine with a outdated Athlon X2-64 System with 2 cores at 300 EUR if you can assure that MFPro can use a core alone.

2 GB RAM is minimum, fast harddisc is better than a big one.

I use a fanless and noiseless system with 4GB RAM, a 128GB SSD Drive and a Intel Q8400S Processor. Not a performance champion, but a reliable, quiet and powersaving worker.

Thanks

I need the fastest refresh rate possible (3/4 times per second) with the fastest inward calculation and bet placement for the strategies that I run. Im just wondering if anybody has found an optimum single processor speed combined with motherboard, ram size and speed and hard disk to use. I would be interested in hearing of any upgrades or changes that have been applied which improve performance, no matter how small.

thanks again

4 times a second is nearly impossible outside of the UK purely because of latency.

I rented a server in the UK and it comfortably does 5 refreshes per second.

I have an old laptop with only 1GB of ram. I have a trigger file that i run which has over 50 triggers contained in it, with 30 of them repeating every 1.5 seconds.

As you can guess, my pc runs VERY slowly and is useless for anything else whilst these triggers are running (which can be for 10 hours a day)

Would i be better off upgrading the RAM, buying a new PC or using a VPS???
Thanks in advance :)

this will depend on the profitability of your triggers.

I would say if the laptop is oldish (18 months+) and your triggers are not proven ... get a pc at home first, that way if things don't work out at least you have a decent machine for yourself to use.

If the triggers are profitable get a vps with at least 1gb ram and upgrade to a server if necessary.
