suggested warning notice during restart
« on: 13 Sep 2014, 12:58 »
Hi,
Firstly let me tell you how much faster this Time Machine has allowed me to conduct simulations. I can run 80 or so events overnight which would normally take weeks in real time. It is very impressive indeed.
One thing that does annoy me however is when I run in "don't settle events" mode which I mostly use, then when I want to go back and run a race the second time it automatically wipes out all the race bets for all races.
Sometimes I want to copy details down but once the stop button is pressed it is too late.
What I propose to overcome this is once the stop button is pressed a warning window will display saying something like this  "If you proceed all data will be erased" then show GO and CANCEL buttons.
If this could be incorporated then that would save me going on a memory improvement course :)
Cheers

Hi racepro,

Thanks for sharing your views on this.

I'm not sure though what it is exactly that you propose: to warn a user of the fact that all bets will be erased and markets restarted, or to not erase them in the first place? The latter is hardly feasible as it would inevitable lead to a situation when there could be a bet in the market that was placed "in the future", and the statement would be messed up with different bets placed during different trading sessions in the same market.

Hi Oxa,
Thanks for your response.
I was referring to the latter. I can understand some bets would be affected but when running 50+ events at a time we could ignore the last 4-5 or so events.
The purpose of this warning notice is to let one know that all will be erased. Sometimes we can accidentally press the stop button and back arrow then realise we didn't properly look at the bets placed or make notes etc. Although TM is fast It does take overnight to run say a 100 events. As you know warning notices are quite common on software. It help wakes us out of our slumber :)
In my case it would be a time saver, but don't worry about it if no other interest.
Cheers

If this feature won't take that much of a resource, I'd certainly give this a +1.
