Time Machine prices
« on: 07 Dec 2013, 14:47 »
Hi,

First thing, maybe we need a forum only for Time Machine threads?

I started using Time Machine today, and the first thing I see is that it is pretty expensive if you want to test a trigger strategy across many markets. 14p for one single greyhound race is a lot.

Just to compare:

TimeMachine 3dec greyhound all races: £9.38
Fracsoft 3dec greyhound all races: £1.22

TimeMachine 3dec horseracing all GB races: £8.50
Fracsoft 3dec horseracing all GB races: £2.12

I love the new TimeMachine feature. But I think your prices are to expensive.

/Nic.

I find the pricing very confusing.  On the fracsoft website it indicates a price  of £0.59 per betfair event.  But if you launch the viewer it appears that this price is for a whole race meeting,  which would make the Time Machine prices extortionate.

However, Oxa has stated that the data prices are what  Betfair charges.

Could someone in support clarify this please?

Hi nicbot and rubold. I have moved this topic to a newly created board, so that it's more convenient to discuss.

If you're right, then Fracsoft is doing some charity by selling markets cheaper than they buy them from BetFair.

Their pricing page explicitly says Greyhound meetings cost from £0.17 (and that is excluding tax, whereas in Time Machine all taxes are included). I'm going to use their viewer to check the actual prices. I will post back here.

All the time I have known about Fracsoft they have had this pricing. (grouping all event from Romford in one single purchase of £0.17 ex. vat)

So it sounds like a bad plan if they sell the data cheaper then they buy them?  ;D

But great that you look into it.

Thanks,

/Nic.

Emailed BetFair at the same time to get a clarification on this.

Nic, did you ever actually buy any data from Fracsoft at those prices?

I wonder if Fracsoft holds a different type of license?  They seem to have all markets available for the last 3 years - this suggests that they purchase everything in bulk, shortly after markets are finished.  Perhaps this bulk buying provides them with a discount?

Also I don't ever remember needing to visit a Betfair site for authorisation when I first purchased data.  You need to log in with your Betfair username/password when opening the viewer and your BF account must be funded, but that is all the requirements I remember.

No, I have only putted things in the shopping cart  :D (but I have done this many times in the last 12 months).
and why should they display "wrong" prices for more than a year?

Looking forward to hear what Betfair's response is.

Hi Oxa

I had some cash in my Fracsoft account so I opened the viewer and added Newcastle Horse Race meeting 15/11/2013 to my basket and confirmed purchase.  The total cost for all the races at the meeting was £0.59 + VAT, so there is something different between your license and their license.

We have recently discovered that we misunderstood the terms of the Historical Data Licence, which led to a pricing scheme that was unnecessary expensive. In this case the term “meeting” was misinterpreted. A “meeting” in fact includes all markets from all races that took place in a particular venue on a particular day, e.g. Ascot 7th May, and not a single race as we believed earlier.

So the old prices apply to the whole day’s races on a particular racecourse (in horse racing and Greyhound markets).

A football or tennis meeting, however, does equal to a particular match and all associated markets (so that’s different from races).

We are truly sorry for this incident. The silver lining of this cloud is that you can buy much more markets for the same price.

For those who have already purchased some market data we have two options (we will email them separately):

1.   Get a full refund on their order
2.   Add new markets of their selection to their Time Machine.

You do not need to reinstall your MarketFeeder Pro in order for the new prices to come into effect.

I do apologise for this confusion and I thank rubold and nicbot, among others, for raising this question.
