Allow Small Bets - test V real Bets
« on: 01 Apr 2013, 21:38 »
hi,
I get many "bet amount $x is below the minimum and "allow small bets" is turned off"
messages. By turning it on in test mode I believe would solve the error message.
My question is if I did that for real bets would Betfair accept smaller than minimum bets.?
It stands to reason they would not.!! In which case I would need to modify the trigger.
Anyone got any ideas/comments?
Thanks

hi
when you tick allow small bets, the bot sends a bet for 2 euro at max back odds or 2 euro at min lay odds, (these do not normally get matched) the bot then sends the below the limit bet at your required odds, it then cancels the 2 euro bet to leave your below the limit bet placed.
there is no need to alter your triggers.

hi,

Is this okay by Betfair.? I don't exactly follow how it all works but if it works
and does not cause any conflict with Betfair then I am happy.
Recently I've heard or read so many stories of Betfair closing accounts that
I decided not to step out of line.
Thanks

hi
betfair does not like you to bet below there minimum amount and in certain circumstances will close your account, i had my account closed due to betting below the limit and had to use my girlfriends name and credit card to have a new account,BUT i was betting with a certain system that was guaranteed to win, but with only .01 euro (many small bets make big money), they said that it was fraudulent actions that disadvantaged the back better.
so it is safer to bet above there limit, with a few bets below, just for testing a new system for a week or so.

Hi
It is also a good idea to build in an extra time allowance for doing this in your triggers. Each bet below the minimum actually requires 3 bets to be processed in sequence by Betfair and the program.

If you enter many bets below the limit, betfair sometimes voids your bets. You will get an eMai from betfair like this:

Dear xxxxxxx,
One or more of your bets, placed on the market has been voided/lapsed by Betfair. Whilst these bets were all placed in good faith, in order to be fair to all users we have had to void/lapse them.

Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us by emailing [email protected] or calling our helpdesk on 0870 0110444 (+44 20 8834 8060 from outside the UK). You will find details of the voided bets in "My Account, Betting History".

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience, and we hope you continue to use and enjoy the site.

Unfortunately my greenout procedure needs to enter bets below the minimum in many markets. Whenever I receive this email, I change trigger parameters, so that bets below the minimum occur less frequently.

hi,

Thanks for your replies. So in effect "allow small bets" needs to be used with caution.
I certainly take your advice and would not do anything to jeopardise my account with Betfair. I think it probably is better not to use the function. It would be a pointless exercise building a trigger that works in test mode but can't 'legally' be used in real mode.  I'm still a new boy in town and learning new stuff every day :)

Despite officially not recommending small bets to anyone, personally I often place them - can't help it, especially if laying at high prices.

I'd say it's not that tough, if you place let's say 10-15 small bets a day, apart from some bets above the minimum, you'll be on the safe side.
It's the abuse of this system that will make BetFair see red, i.e. placing 50-100 small bets an hour.

I would take on board everybody else has said in this thread though.

I would say it's the very small bets that stir them into action, like the 0.01 bets that mcbee was placing, as that was a guaranteed method of profit generation with no risk. Although I have only just discovered that mcbee was doing that, I had seen many complaints about it on the Betfair forum where it was universally condemned by other punters, so Betfair was forced to take action.

I don't think they would normally bother about anyone placing a range of small bets of differing amounts, since often when placing a larger bet you may only have a small proportion matched anyway.   Also hedging bets below the minimum should be a safe practice providing your initial bets were above the minimum.
