Hi,
I received an email from Betfair informing me that betfair betting will be illegal from 3 December 2012 11:00 am GMT for users that reside in Greece.
Will it be similar to France?
Will we be able to operate from a virtual server based somewhere else?
And what about bank accounts transactions?

Regards,

Theodore

Firstly, remember that you may be breaking laws in your country by trying to continue using Betfair

The only way to achieve continued use of Betfair is to set up a VPS in a datacentre located preferably in UK.  You will need a new account which must have a different name from  your old account.  This probably means you will need to find a family member/friend who resides in another country where Betfair is allowed.  This person should have no interest in using Betfair and needs to open a new bank account and give you control over it.  Of course, this person must also be prepared to provide ID documents for the KYC checks when requested - these are usually a copy of passport or driving licence and a utility bill.

If the above sounds difficult or impossible, then I'm afraid you may need to forget about Betfair until European law is changed to outlaw such protectionism.

A new account is not necessary.

Find a mail forwarding service in the UK (google). Update your address accordingly and have them forward all communications from betfair. This will include KYC verification.

VPS/Server in the UK.

Neteller/Moneybookers for deposit/withdrawals.

Remember you may be breaking the law so thread carefully, don't tell anyone or admit to it.

I or anyone on this forum cannot be held liable for this advice.

Have you tried that 1oser?   I suppose that will give you a UK address to put on your old account, but will it be a residential address?  It all depends on what steps Betfair will employ to detect people trying to get round the bans.  I suspect they will be very stringent, as they do wish to re-enter these countries if European legislation is enforced.

It never ceases to amaze me the protectionism that these european countries have employed in banning Betfair, particularly as the majority have more than struggling economies and they could easily have benefited from a proper licensing agreement.

Has anyone tried this work around and see if it works yet?
