Hi londolozi
here's what I tried:

1 profile soccer market connected to Excel and refreshing
1 profile horse market, is in file trigger
is in file works ok

1 profile horse market connected to Excel and refreshing
1 profile same horse market, is in file trigger
is in file works ok

1 profile horse market connected to Excel, is in file trigger
1 profile same horse market, is in file trigger
both is in file work ok

difficult to pinpoint what is causing your issue, as you say it sounds like a "connection" fault
a couple more suggestions:
a little while back you mentioned a false positive on your antivirus, could you double check MF has full access through that, any firewalls, and MF is run as administrator
in the settings, monitoring options, try upping the maximum number of open threads from the default of 30, say 50?

Completely different machine. Windows 10.
A laptop, fresh install of 8.4....

The text file resides in a Dropbox folder. (could that have something to do with it?)
The file name has spaces and hyphen (could that have something to do with it?)

One rule 1. Selections name is in file.
Condition is FALSE ????????

Still won't read the text file.

Hi
AU racing markets have the index as part of the sel_name, check it in view variables.

I think the FIND function should work as a trigger expression is in file.

sorry, in a rush cant test now.

Yes AU markets do included the saddle cloth in sel_name
No sure how I write a trigger expressions to test the contents of the text file against the sel_name. I understand what you are trying to do but no idea how to do it in an expression.
FIND(is in file, sel_name)

If sel_name in AU markets includes the saddle cloth number, although the log doesn't report 1. aaaa is it possible the back ground data is sel_name?
You have always tested in UK markets and soccer. Come think of it, it has only ever worked on UK and USA markets for me.

FALSE ALARM...NOT SOLVED.
So last night I tested with the saddle cloth number in an AU race (Trotters). It worked.
Today going live, my mate uploads his text file.
However see the two images.

I tried different combinations

These were the names 'In the file' ...as typed
"2.WhirlwindAscent"
3.Aristograts
BulletKid

These were reported by a 'the write to file' trigger using [sel_name]
2.WhirlwindAscent
3.Aristograts
1.BulletKid
7.Schindler
9.TiTanTiger
5.ReadyKwila
8.WarwickAvenue
13.ArtisticLicence
10.Balantes
11.CobbNCo
15.GravityForce
12.Leggie
16.YarrowyckOutlaw

Still doesn't work in AU markets? I've just about given up
I've re-saved the file plenty of time today, not sure it that affects.
As written I tested a fresh session last night on AU Traots and it worked but I am at a loss what today's issues are.

Hi
your text file needs the space after the saddle cloth number:

"2. Cody Shannon"
"5. Karandonis"
"9. Clean River"

selections name is in file works on the above
see attached

hi
if you use trigger expression sel_index , it does not matter if you use spaces or not as it is user friendly, you do have to put the saddle cloth number and the dot because that is part of the selections name.
