Match Lay Unmatched-Hard Lesson
« on: 17 Jul 2015, 23:03 »
Hi all
Had a $300 lesson last night  :o (Aussie time zone here) , so thought I would post partially to help newbies like me and partially to seek opinion on the best method (consensus) for dealing with unmatched bets in the run.I have done a fair bit of reading on the forum and have tried the recommended approaches for dealing with unmatched bets. I am running a trigger (tested and running for a while now) that bets @SP on 1 selected runner and distributes a loss under certain conditions, which is usually quite early in the run(where hopefully there is more liquidity than later in the run) Last night backed one at +/- $6.The price moved against me so the stop loss kicked in and distributed the loss at +/-$9.I am using a trigger that monitors for unmatched bets with a 2 sec lead time, which activated the 'match lay unmatched bets' trigger. The race was short -6f- and the price moved quickly to +/-$16.The 'match lay unmatched bets' doesn't change the stake when the odds move against you so with the higher odds a the same stake the liability increased quite a bit.Of course, despite it being a short race and the odds moving out quickly, the horse came in to win, as happens :).BAM! $300 loss in one race!. I am going back to using the 'Çancel then Lay' function but will need to test the stake calculation. If anyone has any ideas on a better/good method of dealing with unmatched bets in the run, please feel free to let me know.Cheers. Also-after a number of months of using MF Pro, I still am amazed at what can be done with this software and am learning a great deal every day.Congrats to the Welldone team.'Much better experience than any other software I have tried.

Maybe try the "Time To End Of Race" condition from recent topics

Bad luck, lots have been there etc etc

hi
is your stop loss trigger set to best for the price, as this tells betfair to match the amount at the best price available so there should be no unmatched bet.

Hi
In addition to what mcbee suggests you can configure some settings for "lay at best" in the Betting Options, or use appropriate conditions to limit your lay liability.

Hi,

Also another consideration to that of Mcbee and MarkV  I think you should include is the scenario for a very late withdrawal.

eg you back at very close the off a horse at 8.0; a horse then withdrawn and the race starts; the trigger is set to take a trade-out at an inrunning price. But that inrunning price is basing the trade-out on a prerace price that is incorrect and will be reduced (via Rule 4 eg), thereby quite possibly causing a large loss to you.

Thank you all for the very helpful responses. Teamwork indeed:).We are lucky to have access to you to ask questions.
I am now using the distribute loss function a second time if there is an unmatched bet for 2 secs after the first distribute loss has run. This hopefully will limit the liability.I will try the lay at best in the settings to see if that changes anything. Mcbee, is there anything else I can try that will try to get the best price available, as per your post (In case I have missed something you meant) ? Larp, that is an interesting scenario.I am backing at SP at 0 secs/minutes before the off. If you have more info on how to deal with a withdrawal, that would be great. I'll search the forum too.
Thanks again.Very much appreciated.

Update for those with similar issues

The 2nd distribute loss still resulted in unmatched bets. This in the run betting does me head in  ;D..so..I tried a Lay first on the selection and taking second best price using a distribute loss formula for the amount (I found on this forum-thank you). I then run a distribute loss after a 2 sec delay if there is a remaining unmatch/partial match. So far it seems to work.I did have two situations this week where the markets seem to suspend during the race (hope not Betfair) or the race ended and my trigger ran out of time to place the bet(haven't had time to review logs properly yet) which is another little niggle to watch for.Might have to adjust my time to end of race setting. One question for the gurus please:
In MF Pro <Settings/Betting Options/When laying at "best price" offer a price that is:[] ticks above the current lay price>-does this apply to triggers laying at the lay_price as well or just to manual bets? Thanks again in advance.I am enjoying having my limited grey matter pushed hard.:)

Hi,

The in-running market might never have started, or if there is a problem at BF they might stop the market and cancel/delete ALL inrunning bets either matched or unmatched. This happens more often than it should, and there is NO comeback at all from BF, don't bother even trying to pursue the issue.

You will miss out on inrunning prices. It is a fact of life at this stage, for almost everyone. Its either the liquidity is not there or someone else is faster (and there will usually be someone!). It doesn't matter why, its a fact you will miss out sometimes/alot. I will PM you a hint for the time-to-end, albeit its probably fairly well known anyway.

Please note, BetFair is seems to be currently OFFLINE
