volume rank
« on: 03 Feb 2015, 17:20 »
Hi,

I'm new to marketfeeder so I'll apologise in advance if this question is repetitive.

I've searched the forum though and can only find a couple of examples.

Quick question...

I'm wanting a "volume rank" variable for horses to use in a trigger.

I found the example posted by mcbee back in 2013 "rank volume.mft" which should do exactly what I'm looking for but I'm just wondering if this method is still the most efficient way today?

The simplest way would be a predefined variable in the software but I don't think I've seen one unless I'm missing it.

If mcbee's example is still the best way of achieving this then I'll go with that. I'll just try and get my head around everything it's doing first as I like to understand it first before just using it.

Thanks in advance.
Andy

Can you describe how exactly you need to use the volume rank? I.e. do you want to do something with a selection that has, e.g., the third highest volume? Or do you need that volume rank as a variable, i.e. with a value of 3?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I need the volume rank as a variable not a specific number, so say for example IF selections "volume rank" - "odds rank" > 0 THEN BACK.

The examples I've found seem to be good if you're wanting to do something with the 3rd highest volume for example like you say but I'm unsure how to adapt these to do what I'm looking for.

If there was a drop down option "volume rank" or "matched rank" like there is "rank" for the odds then it would be straight forward but as far as I can see there isn't.

Thanks again for your help.

The example formula i mentioned above is the wrong way round but the principle is still the same.

Thanks.

Please see an example attached. You can sort selections by any parameter you want and then access them by their matching index.

Just one last thing, is it right that the sorting order by default is ascending so lowest volume will have an index of 1?

Thanks again.

Yes, that's right. This reminds me of the need to add the asc/desc option to that condition.

Brilliant thanks. I thought it was the case with you using "100-volume" but just wanted to double check as I want the selection with highest volume to have an index of 1.

Thanks again.
