Delayed data means no volume or matched bet
« on: 09 Jan 2025, 19:11 »
Hi, I think I hit the dreaded delayed data problem with Betfair and I have no idea how to get out of it.

I noticed my data feed is delayed(I see it when I click the icon on the top left of a market), I also noticed it on various occasion, via the app and on Betfair's website too. I am trying to automate a strategy that relies on volume but I cannot use that as I don't have access to the volume data as a result.
My account is funded, I generated a fair amount of commission outside of the app too, so I do not understand why I may be on delayed data since I do not see how I broke any rules.

Does anyone has any idea what should I do now? Is there a way to get in touch with Betfair to get them to lift this restriction?

Hello,

Yes, that means your account has been switched to delayed mode for "commercial usage".
BetFair doesn't allow refreshing / requesting market prices without real bets.
That happens when you use only test mode - MF requests data from BetFair but doesn't send any real bets.
You have to ask BetFair support to unblock you account.

Any idea how many real bets you would need to place each day to avoid this problem?  A lot of strategies in triggered betting require  long periods of monitoring without any bets placed.

Hi rubold
Oxa wrote an article here which gives some good advice. I don't think it's that critical the amounts that are suggested in the article but as long as you are not refreshing markets too often and put some real money into the markets being monitored then there shouldn't be any problem. I monitor 50 or so markets almost 24/7 but put in a couple of quid as unmatched "value" bets well away from the trading range (and my real trigger). I have a green up trigger ready just in case I get lucky on the value bet 8). The combination of low refresh rates and putting some unmatched liquidity in to market shows consideration and gives you room to do the "long monitoring" if you see what I mean.
Please read the following disclaimer with regards to the information you may request and obtain on our forum. This specifically concerns trigger files and various instructions as to how to implement a strategy.

The decision to block or not your account is made by a human (BetFair security team).
Depends on many options.
We usually suggest to use TimeMachine for trigger development and testing - much faster and safer.
