Horse racing results in test mode

Hi Guys,

I have a VPS setup and am running MarketFeeder on that so that so I can run it across all horse races in the UK and Australia.

Sometimes almost once a day I get a race that doesnt result and given that my trigger relies on the previous market being settled the trigger hangs.

Is there anyone that has seen this sort of thing happen before, and if so what did you do to fix it.

There is no guarantee that you will have the result of the previous race before you bet on the next one.  Races often have a delayed start,  there may be a steward's inquiry, the ambulance might have taken a jockey to hospital.  Also BetFair may delay in settling a race on an arbitrary basis.

So your triggers need to be powerful enough to cope with almost any eventuality.  I presume you need the previous result for staking purposes.  If the race goes in-play then in most cases you can determine the winner by looking at which horse had the lowest last traded price at suspension - this should work most of the time.   You can wait for the race to settle normally, but if that fails you can then use a trigger to look at the last traded price and fire it a few seconds before your staking triggers operate.

if you are only using one selection per meeting, then you can use the balance as a result, because the balance is normaly altered before the result/market settled.

Thanks Rubold, that is exactly why I am after that. COuld you please point me the way of any examples of where this has been done.

I have some triggers where I implemented this, so I'll dig out the relevant parts for you.  If you are only using test mode at present, you can try the bet settlement simulator under the Test Mode tab in settings.  Select "By Last Price" and tick "Settle finished markets automatically".   I believe you also need to untick "Download results from BetFair...."    This is not ideal since you are giving up normal settlement, but works most of the time.

The balance does update before the market displays settled, but in my experience you only gain a minute at most and will still not cope with delays or steward's inquries etc.
