Is it just me?
« on: 09 Nov 2013, 13:52 »
This happens from time to time and drives me nuts!

I open MFP and my Excel spreadsheet.

I click on "Launch Excel", and I get the standard message "There is an open instance of Excel. Do you want ............................

I click "Yes", and it then opens a totally new and unrelated spreadsheet (usually called "Book 1") with the standard 3 sheets.

Why does this happen? Is it my computer settings?

And is there any way I can then get MFP to connect to my spreadsheet without having to close down everything and try again with no guarantee of success?

Thanks again,

bobh

Hi
I just tried it and it works as it should.
It may be related to the earlier problems you were encountering.

I would suggest:
open a fresh workbook and paste in the sheets / data from your original workbook
save the new workbook as a different name from the original
close all workbooks
try using the new one with MFP

Bobh,

Open Task Manager to see if there is a hidden instance of Excel running in the computer's memory. It could be there even if you can't see the actual spreadsheet on the screen.

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del, choose "Start Task Manager", switch to "Processes" and look for EXCEL.EXE. Once found, click on it and press "End Process" in the bottom corner of the window.

Then try over again with MF Pro and your workbook.

Thanks to you both - I'll let you know.

Mark, this problem is on a different computer (lap top) to the previous issues, but I'll try the solution you have suggested.

It has been a constant problem on this computer (desk top), which is why I asked if it could be my settings.

Onward and upward!

Just tried Oxa's solution, and yes, there was another instance of Excel running.

Deleted it, and tried launching Excel in MFP again and it connected OK.

Another simple solution, so thanks once again to you both.

Even though it appears this has fixed Bobh's problem I have to say this is a constant pain to my auto programing. I have found.

If I have had an Excel session open at some earlier stage (unrelated to MFPro), whether or not is it open now, MFPro will ask the question.

The only time MFPro opens a session automatically is when I have done a fresh reset of my PC.

The other issue is when I say connect to the open session and it chooses not too, even after saying 'yes'.

MFP6 was much more Excel friendly for some reason.

One more question if I may.

When I use the variable mr_1_s_1_sel_name in my spreadsheet, the resultant name has no spaces between words?

For example,  the name "Gold Bullion" comes through into the spreadsheet as "GoldBullion" (is no space between Gold and Bullion).

Is it my settings again?

Thanks,

bobh

That's right: if you refer to a string, you must enclose it in double quotes. i.e. "mr_1_s_1_sel_name".
