market settling (unsettling)
« on: 05 Apr 2013, 14:36 »
hi,
I find it puzzling why there is need for settling
markets ...by random rank, last price and random.
After all the real test is using real finish results.
It is further confusing not having an option which
simply offers betfair results.
I thought I had it all worked out till tonight I had a
draw settled as the winner but in fact the away team
won 1-4 ..... I am sure there is an answer to this but
my point being it should be offered as an option
perhaps called ... real results.
Another oddity seems to be the option "max number of goals
a team can score"
Just sharing a viewpoint

hi,
mcbee put me right in an earlier posting. I just found it again.
I just find it a bit confusing why there is need for
simulator results after all there are loads of events worldwide for testing weekly
on a real time real result basis. Tell me where I am going wrong please.

Hi
Among other things the settlement simulator is very useful for testing the function of triggers without waiting for an event to finish. It speeds up trigger development a lot. It is brilliant for rapid testing of staking plans.

The goals limitation option can be used for testing in markets such as Total Goals or Correct Score. For example a simulated soccer score of 20-24 is not really useful. The simulated score can also be used in tennis markets, e.g. set score.

Only one method of settlement should be in use at any one time:
either
bet settlement simulator
or
download results from Betfair

Please read the following disclaimer with regards to the information you may request and obtain on our forum. This specifically concerns trigger files and various instructions as to how to implement a strategy.

hi,
thanks for enlightening me.
Yes the simulator would be very good if the algorithm
behind the model is based on a large sample of past data
and using a hold out sample for testing.
Otherwise simulating using 'random by rank' as an example
would be akin to being blindfolded and sticking a pin in the form guide
and selecting Notts County playing away to beat Man U.
I may be on the wrong track and please put me right if I am.
I thrive on constructive criticism. :)

racepro, what MarkV probably meant (and he was right) is that the bet settlement simulator can help you to test your staking plan triggers and see whether they work correctly, i.e. placing bets of correct size, adding up loss or resetting your bank at the right moments etc. It is certainly not good for testing the profitability of your staking plan.
Always try your triggers in Test Mode before switching to real money!

Just to add one up, make sure that you know which one works for you and which one doesn't. It's essential for sure.
