In a win market only one selection will be appointed a place, that is, the actual winner's sel_place will be equal to 1, while all other selections' places will be equal to 0.
In a place market, on the other hand, the number of places can be between 2 and 5.
As for your case, it is a mistake to think that r_1_sel_place will get you the place of the favourite. Here is why:
1. The r_1_ prefix refers to the current favourite, which is determined as the selection having the lowest back price. When the market is settled, all selections' prices are usually null, so this won't give you an accurate prediction of the favourite.
2. You are probably interested in the pre-off favourite and its winning place. In that case you will need to find it and check its place by using the following conditions:
Selection's Trigger Expression last_order is equal to 1
and Selection's Trigger Expression sel_place is ...
