Bots in Exchange Games
« on: 07 Jun 2012, 22:17 »
Hi,

I am currently developing a poker bot.

I was bored and just looked up the Betfair terms and condition and see it is ok to use Bots in sports betting and in other areas but it lists the use of bots in exchange games as not allowed.

I was wondering if anyone has fallen foul of this and if so how do they determine if a bot is in use and how long does it take them to notify you and do they suspend you account?

thanks

D

I don't think that Welldone would have produced a sophisticated bot for the exchange games, if the use of bots was against Betfair's conditions.

They are prohibited in real Poker, but certainly not in exchange poker.

I don't believe this ... Please post the section in the rules that says bots in exchange games via the API is not allowed!

Bots are not allowed in GAMES not in EXCHANGE GAMES.
Please read carefully the terms.

That's good to know, I was probably reading the term and conditions incorrectly.

I think it was the section below

You will place all wagers on Games through the various user interfaces provided on our site and you will not wager through other means, including the use of a "robot" player. The use of programs designed to automatically place bets within certain parameters (i.e. “robot” players) is not permitted on any Games (including Poker, Casino, Arcade Games, Exchange Games or any other Games) on any part of our site

&

We may restrict you from using programs designed to automatically place bets within certain parameters (e.g. to back or lay at a certain price) ("bots") either generally or in relation to any specific bot if we believe that you have used a bot:
to the detriment of our business;
to place bets on, or manipulate, any Market which has the purpose or effect of adversely affecting the integrity of the Exchange or any Market.

The first one is under the "Gaming" section. I believe it's just an error to see the exchange games there.
X-Feeder uses an official programming interface that created by BetFair especially for bots - there is no other use of it. And from the link I sent you can see that the program was checked, tested and approved by BetFair security team. Here another link with a similar question and BetFair's answer:

The second one... Yes, they may restrict you using a bot if they want. As well as they may close your account, even restrict a country (like Spain) without any warnings. There is nothing with the software (as it's approved) but with a way you use the software. For example it's against the terms to place bet below the minimum in Exchange Games (and such feature was deleted from X-Feeder by their demand) but nobody (except BetFair) can prohibit you to do so with your or our software or without any.
